4B SUNDAY,0CT.6,2013 Religion SIDNEY HERALD Living here in eastern Montana, like living in any place, has its good points and its bad points. For those of us who like it, we stay around for a while. For those who do not like it, they often leave within a year or two. When people do not like the area, one of the things that I hear mentioned is that we are so isolated. Some long-term residents lament that we are not the same small town that we once were. No matter how you look at, we have a lot of distance between towns and a lot of open space in our part of the world. God is never a long ways away It often II seems like Helena, and state gov- ernment, are a long way away and have forgetten Religious about us. It words can seem like Wash- ington, D.C., Pastor Nell Und0f is a long way away and that many there are not aware that we even exist. New residents often feel like they have come to the end of the world in order to get here and to find a job, and may feel that in coming here, they have left family a whole world away. We have children and grandchildren that do not sound like a long ways away, but sure seem like it at times. North Dakota is only a few minutes away, but my kids and grandchildren in North Dakota are seven or eight hours away. It can sound like our grandchil- dren in Oregon are close, for Oregon is not very far from Montana, but that is the other side of the state and they are on the other side of Oregon. Living in eastern Mon- tana can seem like almost 'There are times when it seems like we have been abandoned by family and friends and employers and even God. Still, even then, God is with us." Nell Undorff Pastor everything is a long ways away. Fortunately God is not like that. When the angel appears to Joseph to tell old Joe of the coming birth of Jesus, Joseph is told that this child will be called "Emmanuel", which means "God is with us." (Matthew 1:23). It may seem that everything is a long ways away, but God it with us. That is such a power- ful statement. For each and every one of us, no matter where we are, God is with us. There are times when it seems like we have been abandoned by family and friends and employers and even God. Still, even then, God is with us. Even then, no matter what the situa- tion is, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ro- mans 8:38-39). Wherever you are today, let those words of our Lord comfort you, give you peace, and no longer feel alone. Nail Lindorff is pastor of Peoples Congregational Church, Sidney+ and First Congregational Church in Savage. i !!t 433-1983 SJ : / Sidney i'm Iovin' it" IN S U R A N C E C 0 M P A N TM Partner in Protection" chland Ferm Rutul _Y Phone: (406) 488-4898 West Side Professional Center, Suite 1, 1405 4th St. S.W., Sidney A church with a heart where the Word of I B God comes alive I to the hearer. 6th Ave. & 11th St. S.E.,S dney 433-7773 I :!
