On Oct. 10, 1950, Carol and Gordon were united in marriage in Watford City, N.D. They made their home in Sid- ney, where Carol raised her fam- ily and operated a daycare for several years; later she worked in the "old hospital" and the Sid- ney National Bank as a book- keeper. In 1971 Carol started to work for the Sidney Law Enforcement Center for 26 and half years, as a dispatcher, and retired in 1997. After her retire- ment, she volunteered for six years for the Sidney Chamber " of Commerce. Carol liked to to do crossword puzzles, woodworking, sewing and gardening. She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and enjoyed cooking for large groups. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose. Carol died peacefully at her home, in Sidney, Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003. Carol is survived by her son, Stuart (Lena) Neer, Sidney; daughters, Lynda (Greg) Harp- er, Bozeman, Lynel (Bud) King, Sidney, and Ellen (Wade) Tombre, Savage; sister, Mavis (Carrel) Hauge, Fridley, Minn.; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Florence Carson; husband, Gordon; and brothers, Raymond and Wally. Funeral services for Doris Kuykendall, Sidney, formerly of Cartwright, N.Do, were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care facility chapel, with Pastor Larry Quanbeck officiating. Music was provided by Sharon Whited and Virginia Olsen. Cas- ketbearers were John Irwin, Brian Bee, Ken Leland, Brad Bee, Gary Skarda and Leif Jellesed. Honorary casketbearers were John Walker, George Walk- er, Chris Bee, Math Koch, Harold Monson, John Jacobsen, and other friends and neighbors. Interment will be in the Name- less Cemetery, Cartwright, N.D., under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney. Doris was born Aug. 22, 1911. She and her twin sister, Dorothy, joined parents Soren and Bertha (Fratzke) Jackson on their Annika Solemsaas Annika Joan Solemsaas was born Aug. 14, 2003, to Matthew and Heidi Solemsaas, Morris, Minn. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Roger and Sharon Derby, Nor- cross, Minn., and great-grand- parent, Grace Derby, Norcross. Paternal grandparents are Marlen and Nancy Solemsaas, Sidney. Doris Kuykendall Doris Kuykendall homestead between Cartwright and Charbonneau, N.D. Doris graduated from high school in Alexander, N.D. After attending teachers training in Minot, N.D., Doris taught at several rural schools in McKenzie County. On July 3, 1935, Doris was unit- ed in marriage to James H. Ktiyk- endall in Cody, Wyo. Doris is survived by one son, James Robert "Butch" Kuyk- endali of the Cartwright, N.D. area; two daughters, Patricia (Nels) Bee, Circle, and Virginia (Leroy) Leland, of the Squaw Gap Community; four grand- sons; three granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; and three sisters and two broth- ers.
