CHAPTER NO. lS9 Montana Session Lews 1971 AN ACT TO SUBMIT TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF MONTANA AN AMENDMENT TO SECTION 2, ARTICLE IX OF THE CONSTITUTION OF MONTANA CHANGING THE LEGAL VOTING AGE TO EIGHTEEN (IS) YEARS OF AGE, CHANGING THE PERIOD OF RESIDENCE TO THIRTY (30) DAYS AND DELETING THE REQUIREMENT THAT A VOTER BE A TAXPAYER ON CERTAIN ISSUES, AND TO REMOVE OBSOLETE LANGUAGE. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF MONTANA: Section 1. Section 2, article IX of the constitution of the state Of Montona iS amended to read as follows: "Section 2. Every person Of the age of eighteen (11) years or over, possessing the following qualifications, shell be entitled to vote af all general elections and for all officers that now are, or hereafter may be, elective by the people, and, except as herein.Mter provided, upon all (:luest'ls which may be submitted to the vote of the people or electors: First, he abel! be a citizen of the United States; second, he shall have resided In this state thirty iN) days immediately precedin@ the election at which he offers to vote, and in the town, county or precinct such time as may be prescribed by law. Provided that no p'son convicted of felony shall have the right to vote unless he has been pardoned or restored to citizenship by the governor.'" Section 2. Kurtz, a teacher, was here for a week as part of the American Host Program, which brings European teachers to the U. S. for four weeks of comparative study. The last week is spent at a home in the region picked by the visiting teacher. The Sidney Jayeees coordinated the program locally. Kurtz stayed with the Walkers from Aug. 6 through Aug. 12. Mona-Charley Creek News FRANCES STEPPLER Guests at the Victor Helland home the past week have been their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Reeves of Texas. John Collins, Sidney, died in an automobile accident near Roundup Friday while retur- ning from visiting his niece, Mrs. Ruby Snedigar, White Sulpher Springs. John was a former resident of the Charlie of the death of his sister, Mrs. Alfred Johnson, Weyburn, Sask., Canada. The Helland's drove to Weyburn, Monday, to attend the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Cal Steppler and boys attended a Thompson - Steppler picnic at Brush I.ake on Sunday. The Charlie Creek Altar Society held their meeting at the home of Mrs. Elaine Amestoy on Tuesday at visited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peterson, Culhertson. Henry returned last week from being a surgical patient in a Billings hospital.
