SIDNEY HERALD I came across an interesting story about the baptism of the Gauls. The Gauls were a warlike people who in ancient times lived in what is now France and Belgium. Christian missionaries came into their territory and many of the Gauls be- came Christian. When a converted warrior was baptized in the river, he would hold one arm high in the air as he was dunked under the water. The missionaries thought this was rather peculiar so they asked why they did not get one arm wet. The mis— sionaries were told that one arm was kept dry so that it was not baptized. Then when they went into battle that arm could hold the weapon that would destroy the enemy in a most un-Christian manner. I’m fairly certain that this is not a true story, but it makes a good point. Although we are not all dunked in a river in our baptism, we are considered completely wet. There is no part of us that does not receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. But if we had MW Get wet a choice, what would we choose to hold up and not get wet? God has given each of us three things: Pastor Roberta Pierce ourselves, our time and our possessions. What do you not want to get wet? Our time is important for us. We have to allo- cate our precious time among many activities. There is time for work Religious words and there is time for play. Do we remember to allocate some of that time for the good of oth- ers? Yes, our time is our own, but God did not intend for us to hoard our time. Time is a gift and God encourages us to use what we have to better ourselves and our neighbor. There are many examples of how people in this area use their time for the good of others and, in turn, find great fulfillment in what they are doing. The volunteer opportu- nities are endless. People have a very interesting relationship with their possessions. We all want enough money and “things” to be “comfortable.” But the definition of “comfortable” varies from person to person. God gave us the ability to acquire money and God intends for us to use the money to take care of our needs. God does not want anyone to go without the necessi— ties to live a “comfort- able” life. There is one more thing God wants from us. God wants us to share what has been so generously given to us with oth- ers. There is the saying SUNDAY, JULY 14, 2019 IOA “you can’t take it with you.” So now is the time to generously give to others, be it at your church or another non- profit organization. God promises us to give us all we need, so we don’t need to cling to what we have in fear of running out of money or other possessions. Our God is a gener- ous God. Let’s follow God’s example and be generous people in this world. Our generosity will do a lot to further the Kingdom of God and help our neighbors in distress. ’God promises as to‘give us all we need, so we donit need to cling to what we have in fear of running out of money or other possessions.’ We are your story. *Sihmn 1112mm :j 316 2nd Ave. rte Sidney o 406433—2403 msidneyheraldcom Olson Plumbing 8!
