Ken was on a farm near Smishek north of Powers Lake, and !moved to a historic barn- home in the center of Lake just four miles L of the family homestead. graduated from high at Powers Lake in 1944, week after graduation the U.S. Navy and two years. was united in mama on July 12, 1951. Ruth Curtis MacGrady was born March 13, 1908, in Syra- cuse, Ind., to John and Mary Ellen (Rookstool) Curtis. When Ruth was 2 years old, her family moved from Indiana and came to North Dakota. They home- steaded in the Bennie Peer Creek in McKenzie County and she grew up there. Ruth attended Bennie Peer School and com- pleted the eighth grade. When she was 18 years of age, Ruth moved across the river and Ruth M. MacGrady worked at the Cook Ranch.. She and Robert S. "Mike" MacGrady were united in mar- riage in Sidney on Sept. 18, 1926. Ruth and Mike had three sons: Raymond, Robert and Richard. The family lived in McKenzie County, N.D., and later moved near Sidney and lived in the Gossett Community. In 1964, Ruth and Mike were divorced and Ruth continued to live in Sidney, where she cleaned houses and'helped peo- ple in their homes. Ruth enjoyed playing cards and Yahtzee with her friends as well as going for drives. She also enjoyed taking care of her home and yard. She came to Extended Care on Jan. 17, 1992. She was honored as Resident of the Month in August, 1992. She was also named Resi- dent of the Year and had been involved in the Outstanding Nurs- ing Home Resident program. Ruth died at Sidney Health Center Extended Care Tuesday morning, June 10, 2003. Ruth is survived by her son, Robert (Carol) MacGrady, Sid- ney; 12 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; and stepsisters, lone Smart and Joan Evanson. She was preceded in death by Kenneth Helgeson System in 1990. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and taking scenic country drives. He loved working in his yard, caring for his roses and playing cribbage with family. He especially loved time spent to the #1 Dunner. Kenneth Helgesort visiting with family and friends. Kenneth died peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 12, 2003, after battling lung cancer for the past year. his parents, Elmer and Johanna; six brothers, Oren, Henry, Art, Ernest, Orville and Lloyd; and a sister, Ellen. Ken is survived by his wife, Gloria, Sidney; son, James [I (wife, Gall) Helgeson, grand- I GLZ C. I sons Jayme and Dustin, Roundup; son, Keith (wife, Lau- rie) Helgeson, grandsons Ryen and Bradley, granddaughters Emily and Samantha, Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter, Lynell !
