SIDNEY HERALD.‘ SUNDAYJUNE 9,.20I9 A3 MILESTONE OBITUARIES Borgny Snove Simonis, 90 Borgny Snove Si- monis was born to Nels and Selma Ped- erson on June 27, 1,928 on the family farm at Horse Creek, ND. She attended school at Horse Creek and graduated from Sid- ney High School. She met the love of her life, Ray Simonis, at the Triangle Night Club doing What was their lifelong passion — danc- ing. They married May 29, 1948. They settled in Glasgow, MT and raised two children, Carmen and Kent. Af- ter her husband passed away in 1985, she moved back to Sidney, MT. She was a mem- ber of the Sidney VFW, Sons of Norway, and a single dancing group. Many good times and good friends were made over the years. In 2012, Borgny moved to Billings and lived with her daughter until she passed away on April 18, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, grand- daughter, great-grand- son, and sister. A burial and memorial service will be held in Glasgow, MT at 3 lat- er date. Marie passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at her home. Commander Leon Houglum, US. Navy Ret., passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 in Fischer Cottage at St. John’s. Leon was born" in 1933 on the fam- ily homestead in Mon- tana to William and Hazel Houglum.'He attended and gradu- ated from school in Sidney, received a BA in Economics from Leon Houglum air medals for over 40 combat missions and the Presidential Distin- guished Flying Cross for the rescue of an Air Force pilot under heavy enemy gunfire. He retired from the Na- vy with over 25 years of service. After retirement, he spent over a decade as Director of Community Relations and Resource Development at Saint the University of Vincent Hospital in Montana and a MA in Administration from George Washington University. In 1955, he married Juanita in Sidney. Leon served as a Naval Aviator for 21 years flying a variety of aircraft aboard air- craft carriers on both coasts. As a search and rescue pilot he received both civilian and military awards for 16 rescues at sea and in North Viet- nam, including two Billings. Programs and special events initiated during this period in- clude the Ronald Mc- Donald House, SAINTS Ball, Heart and Sole Race, Fortin Memorial Golf Tournament, and the HELP helicopter ambulance. Leon was a member of many social and lo- cal organizations. Leon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Juanita; daughter, Lau- ra Lee (Charles) Rose; son, William (Pamela) Houglum; grandsons, Cody Rose and Ben- jamin (Micah) Rose; granddaughter, Kiana Houglum; and sister, Elaine Amestoy. He was preceded in death by his parents; broth- er, William Houglum; sisters, Alice Reisig and Verna Fisher; and granddaughter, Rachel Lee Rose.
