SIDNEY HERALD Religion SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 2019 Recently I was in West Fargo visiting my daughters and their families. One evening we went to a baseball game. This was not pro- fessional baseball. This was 6-8 year olds. One of the smallest players hit a ball very well, for a little kid. He stood at home plate admiring the ball he had hit. All the while parents and members of his team were telling him to run. All of a sudden, he seemed to realize that he should run and he took off for first base. As he was running to first base, his father What did you say? yelled something like, on 1115 “Go Johnny!” And the first mis- kid stopped, part way Sionary to first base, turned to his father, and yelled “what?” It was a wonderful moment. I wonder how often we get caught up in watch- " Asia, ing ourselves and forget Rel'glous with the about what God would words inten- have us do. tion of I wonder how often we , , preach- hear little or nothing P0511” Nell “"d‘fi ing the of what God is saying " Gospel to us, maybe don’t even recognize the voice. In Acts 16,.we read about the apostle Paul’s second missionary jour- ney. Paul visited the churches he had started of Jesus and starting more churches among those people.,But we are word of God in Asia. And then Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia (in Europe) asking him to come and help them. So, Paul went on the preach and teach in Europe. I wonder why Paul was told not to go to Asia. It seems like it would have been a good idea for Paul to preach the Gospel of Jesus there, but the Holy Spir- it told him not to go. Was it simply the wrong timing? How did he know not to go to Asia? told" verse that Raul And how did he know to was forbidden‘by‘ the go to Macedonia? \ Holy Spirit to speak the Lots of people strug- ., gle with figuring out what God would want them to do. Paul had a vision of a man from Macedonia asking him to come and help. Some may have visions of what God is telling them to do. Lots of us do not have visions. Still, God speaks to us, in many other ways. We may realize the will of God by what someone says to us, by our thinking things through, by prayer or reading of the Bible. We may realize because of things happening around us. Maybe by a whole lot of different things. In many ways, it does not really matter how we hear God, what matters is that we need to be open enough to hear God. We can easily get caught up in our own stuff, like watch- ing a baseball in flight. We may even stop and turn around wondering what is being said. The bottom line is that we need to be open to hear and see God, no matter how it happens in our lives and in the world around us. God is calling each of us. Hopefully we will be open enough to hear that call. ’How can you best use those gifts? God has equipped you with the tools and God is hereto help you.’ Check our Web site for or we 414 E.
