Florence "Girlie" Anderson was born in Savage on Sept. 24, 1912, to parents Jesse Joseph and Florence May (Stapelton) Hart. She had five brothers and five sisters. Girlie spent her childhood in the Midway and Intake communities. She was glad when thosedays were over. She attended school in Glen- dive for her first three years of high school, then returned to Savage for her senior year and was named salutatorian for the class of 1931. Girlie's family provided housing for school- teacher. Helen Frederickson. who became a very close friend. Girlie worked at the Sidney Pro- vision in Sidney. On Sept. 30. 1933, she was united in marriage to Ernest Anderson in Glendive at the Episcopal Church. They made their home in the Midway Com- munity, where Girlie and Ernest farmed and raised two daugh- ters, Louise and Phyllis. Ernest died on June 8, 1937, after being struck by lightening and devel- oping double pneumonia. Girlie and their daughters moved into Sidney, and she went back to work at the Sidney Provision. On Feb. 24, 1940, she married Harry Anderson at Pella Luther- an Church in Sidney. They farmed eight miles south of Sid- hey. raising sugar beets, grain and hay. GMie was an active member in many groups, including the Crane Ladies Aid, Richland Homemakers. |he Pella Luth~r- an Church Ladies Aid-Shalom Circle, the Women of the Moose and served as a 4-H leader. Her hobbies included ceramics. embroidery and did lots of sewing for her daughters. Girlie died Wednesday, May 21, 2(X)3, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care I:acility. Sidney; brother, Carroll (Mickie) Hart, Spokane, Wash.; sisters. Marion Dixon, Folbrook, Calif., Alice Kappel, Maxine Blackburn, both of Portland. Ore.: 19 grand- children and 29 great-grandchil- dren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Florence ttart; husbands, Ernest Ander- son and Harry Anderson; grand- son, Richard Collins; brothers, Jake, Bill, Bud and Pete Hart; and sisters, Erma Herigstad and Murle Beny.
