SIDNEY HERALD Sports SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2014 3B Culbertson boys earn four-peat at District 2-C meet BY SARAH BLOOM SIDNEY HERALD The Cowboys earned their fourth consecutive district title Wednesday at the District 2-C track meet held in Sidney. Taking the title with 119 team points, Tristan Sun Rhodes led Culbertson with 25.5 points, followed by high-point earners Adam Buxbaum, 24.5, Cameron Lambert, 23.5, and Shayne Cochran with 20.5 points. Sun Rhodes consistently placed in both track and field events. The Culbertson senior placed second in the 400-meter dash (54.6) and in the 800-meter run (2:07.2); fourth in the 1,600-meter run (5:07.7); and seventh in the high jump (5-2); and was a member of the relay team that placed first in the 1,600-meter event. Adam Buxbaum had significant first-place earn- ings in the high jump (5-10) and in the 400-meter dash (53.7). He was also part of the first-place relay team in the 1,600-meter event and in the second-placed relay team in the 400-meter event (47.4). In the field, David Man- ning held down the throwing events. Manning earned the individual title in the shot out (50-3) while taking sec- ond in the discus (125-7). Lambert and Cochran earned points in track and field events. Lambert finished first in the 100-me- ter dash (11.7); third in the 200-meter dash (24.5) and sixth in the long jump (19-0). Cochran took third in the long jump (19-9.5); fourth in the triple jump (38-7.25); sixth in the shot put (38-6) and seventh in the javelin (130-7). Both Lambert and Cochran had their part in the relay events. Other point earners for the Culbertson boys included Logan Nickoloff, who placed seventh in the discus (105-9) and eighth in the 300-me- ter hurdles (1:00.8) behind seventh-placed teammate Joe Hanson (57.0). The Cowboys placed in all but three events Wednesday to earn the District 2-C title. Culbertson's girls took fifth as a team with 66 points. The Cowgirls were led by Emily Nielsen with 21.75 points. Fairview's boys' strong campaign led them to place second as a team with 98 points. Alex Taylor led the Warriors with 19.5 points. Fairview's boys had a dominant presence in the pole vault with four placers advancing to the Eastern C divisional meet. Brett Berry led his team placing first in the event (11-6). Taylor finished second (11-0) while Parker Jensen took fourth (10-6) and Taryn Candee placed sixth (9-6). As a team, the Warriors finished third in both the 400-meter relay (47.5) and the 1,600-meter relay (3:54.6). In the throwing events, Austin Wicorek and Ben Hardy represented the War- riors by earning third and fourth places respectively (43-0.25; 40-7.5). In the discus Hardy threw for third (119-3) and Sean Murphy earned fourth (116-10). Kelly Danielson, a freshman, was also at the top of the list with 20.5 points. Vitt earned first in both the long jump (16-1.75) and in the triple jump (34-4.25). Vitt finished second in the high jump (4-8) and in the 100-me- ter hurdles (18.5). Danielson finished first in the 1,600-meter run (6:25.4). Autumn Rehbein led the R&L Fusion girls to finish third with 98 points. She placed first in the discus (111-10), over 20 feet ahead of Circle's Emily Lamson. A. Rehbein also took second in the shot put (32-3). The relay team, a mixture of members including Shaye Johnston, Rain Rehbein, Paige Smith, Michelle Switzer and Shelby Senner, placed second in the 400-me- ter (55.3) and 1,600-meter events (4:47.1). Brock Frisbie was the Fusion's lone first-placer for the boys, finishing first in the 200-meter dash (24.3). Tim Wright, however, was the team's high-point earner with 22 points. He took sec- ond in the 1,600 and 3,200-me- ter runs (4:59.9; 10:53.8). Braden Feisthamel led Sav- age to place third as a team with 85 points. Feisthamel was also the second-highest point earner of all boys with 32.5 behind Froid-Lake's Jalen Hendrickson with 40. Feisthamel's first-place finishes included the long jump (20-2.5) and the javelin (157-2). In the 400-meter relay, Savage's Brock Miller, Trey Bloesser, Jordan Skaley and Feisthamel combined for a first-place finish (47.0) Ryder Rice, Tucker Lien, Skaley and Bloesser repre- sented Savage in the pole vault. Skaley tied for second (11-0) while Rice tied for third (10-6), Bloesser tied for fourth (9-6) and Lien placed (7-6). Comprised of two high- scoring athletes in Brittany Conradsen and Lexi Joslin, the Lady Warriors of Savage managed to score 33 points between the two. Joslin earned first in the pole vault (5-1) while having strong finishes on the track. Con- radsen earned fourth in the 100-meter dash (14.5) and in the triple jump (32-4). Other area athletes having success in the district meet included Sophia Ekness, who led her M0nDak Lady Thunder team to a first- place finish with 149 points and was the day's highest point-earner with 40.5 points. Ekness finished first in the 100-meter dash (13.8); the 200-meter dash (28.4); the 400-meter dash (1:03.1) and second in the 800-meter run (2:45.3) in what was a photo-finish behind Circle's Ramsey Bailey (2:45.2). It was no surprise for Bainville's Chance Hyatt to earn first in multiple long-distance events. He finished ahead of the pack in the 800-meter run (2:05.2); the 1,600-meter run (4:36.9) and in the 3,200-meter run (10:18.2). He led Bainville with 30 points on the dy.
