A4 SIDNEY HERALD, WEDNESDAY, MAY I S, 2019 SPORTS semors BY CAYSI JOHNSON Sidney seniors Lauren Beenken and Brooke Franklin celebrated their senior night at South Meadows Field Friday Night. The Eagles played Watford City in a chilly and windy game full of steals. Starting off the first inning, Watford City managed to steal home and score the first run of the night. Lexi Metz was starting pitcher for the Eagles. Eagles then come up to bat and an- swered Watford's score with one of their own after Brooke Franklin stole home. Trudi Spel- drich then subbedin torun for catcher Zoe Mor- rill. Speldrich ended up stealing home after the Watford catcher made an error. Hadley Garsjo ended the inning hitting a grounder tocenter- field, landing her first RBI of the night. Metz showcased strong pitches striking out a Watford batter for the second out of the inning. On the offense, Zoe Morrill hit a power shot just left of second base, landing two RBIs bringing the score to 5-1. The third inning started off with Watford bringing score to a tie, 5-5, Maddie Peters was " senior " SIIR WIll on 111 brought in to relieve Metz as pitcher. Peters made her mark for the inning striking out the final batter. Unfortunately, Sidney offense was kept off base with three catches from Watford. While Watford kept Sidney off base again in the fourth inning, Peters rocked the pitcher's mound, striking out all three Watford batters. The fifth inning featured Peters again striking out all three Watford batters setting the tone for her pitching style in the game. Brooke Morrill landed a fly ball into left field gaining two RBIs. Speldrich came in as a pinch hitter for Ashley LeFors then hit two more RBIs for the Eagles. Speldrich stole home after a Watford error. Zoe Morrill came up to bat hitting a zinger just right of the second baseline gaining two RBIs. End- ing the fifth inning, Chloe Schroeder stole home bringing the score 13-5. After an uneventful sixth inning, the final in- ning showcased a more impressive defense by the Eagles. Riley Thiessen caught a fly ball in centerfield for the first out of the inning and Brooke Franklin made a jumping catch for the final out. The Eagles walk away with a win of 13-5.
