4B SUNDAY, APRIL27,2014 Religion SIDNEY HERALD I'll willadmit it. I've been stubborn. Specifically in prayer. Growing up, my parents prayed with me and my siblings every night. We had our prayers and songs that we would say and sing. I trusted and simply knew that God was listening as my dear Father. God in His word gra- ciously invites us to pray continually and let our requests be made known to Him. I believe that. But recently in my life I find myself reluctant to pray. I still know and believe that God hears my prayers and I've got plenty for which to pray. People, friends, daily needs, and so much more. But instead of casting my cares upon Jesus, I self- ishly keep my cares to myself. I find myself growing out Religious of that daily words habit of prayer. Why do I CariWendMf find myself reluctant to pray? I know the answer. Sinful stubborn pride. I'm like a stubborn steer that won't go through the gate. If you've been around cattle, you know what I'm talking about. You can hol- ler, push, zap, drag and hit all you want, but a stub- The stubborn steer 'In fact, all of us are stubborn. Sometimes they're just afraid, other times they're just plain stubborn for no reason. That steer won't budge and will do all it can to not cooperate. I've gotten stubborn in prayer. My attitude has been sinful. In fact, all of us are stubborn. We resist God and have habits of sin that we won't give up. Like an unbroken steer, our sin is out of control. On our own, we won't budge on giving up our sin. We've dug in our hooves, when the peaceful pasture is just on the other side of the gate. We are stubborn in our sin. The solution for stubborn pride is Jesus. We are sinners; we are like mean, stubborn steers bound for the slaughter- house. Jesus went to the slaughterhouse in your place, and came out alive. "He was oppressed and at- "Jesus is victorious and is alive forever. He is alive to give you peace and comfort for your cares.' Isaiah 53:7 Jesus bore the cross and has conquered sin and death. Jesus is victorious and is alive forever. He is alive to give you peace and comfort for your cares. God forgives your sin for Jesus sake. In Him you have forgiveness for your sin and comfort for your troubles. In Him there is eternal life, a peaceful pasture.
