2B SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 2014 Sports SIDNEY HERALD BY SARAH BLOOM SIDNEY HERALD It's been nearly 20 years since Fairview hosted a track and field meet, and Tuesday, the school welcomed teams and revealed the school's newly-constructed track. Culbertson's boys team finished first overall with 91 points. A strong performance on the track by Tristan Sun Rhodes and Cameron Lambert led the Cowboys to their team victor,/. Sun Rhodes finishing first in the 400-meter run (56.4) and in the 800-meter run (2:14.1). He also finished second in the 600-meter run (5:10.2) and third in the 3,200-meter run (12:11.5). Lambert had a speedy finish in the short- distance races, finished first in both the 100-meter dash (11.2) and in the 200-meter dash (23.5). David Manning led Culb- ertson in the field events. He placed first in the discus (132- 3) and in the shot put (48-10). Adam Buxbaum placed second in the high jump (5-8) and fifth in the long jump (18-2.75). The hosting Fairview boys team finished fourth overall with 60.5 points. The team faired well on the track, finishing first in both the 1,600-meter relay (3:58.2) and in the 400-meter relay (47.3). In discus, Sean Murphy placed second for Fairview (131-8) while Hardy finished third (120-3) and Austin Wic- orek finished sixth (108-9). Fairview's girls finished fourth as a team with 47 points led by Faith Vitt who placed first in the longjump (15-3.5) and in th~ triple jump (31-9.25) Mariah Machart was the lone first-place earner for Culbertson's girls. She placed first in the shot put (31-11). Culbertson's Emily Nielsen placed second in the triple jump (32-2.75). Brock Frisbee led the R&L Fusion boys Tuesday and finished first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.5). Autumn Rehbein led the Fusion girls and placed first in the discus (91-3) and tied for second in the shot put (31-9). Rehbein placed third in the long jump (14-3.5). Savage's Braden Feist- hamel placed first in the long jump (19-11.5) and third in the javelin (142-2). He fin- ished fourth in the 200-meter dash (24.3). Bainville's Chance Hyatt finished first in the 3,200-me- ter run (11:13.2) and in the 1,600-meter run (4:51.6). Tuesday to compete amongst North Dakota and two other Eastern A squads in Glendive and Miles City, For the girls, Sidney fin- ished fourth as a team with 86 points. Miles City and Glendive finished seventh and eighth with 55 and 37 points respec- tively. Sidney's girls had a strong showing in field events Tuesday, Daryn Wolff found suc- cess in the throwing events. Wolff placed first in the discus (108-10) and second in the shot put (32-05). She also placed fifth in the javelin throw (89-11). In a tie, Lexi Prevost and Erin Harris jumped to first place in the pole vault (9- 03*). On the track, Tess Ler finished second in the 3,200-meter run (13:51.12). Prevost finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (49.67) and third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.45"). In other events, Sheridan Sundheim placed second in the high jump (4-11) behind Miles City's Kadie Heinle (5-01). Harley Steinbeisser placed third in the javelin (102-11), and in the triple jump, Har- ris placed fifth (31-07) ahead of teammate Sunheim who placed sixth (31-01.5). Sidney's boys finished sixth in the meet with 75.67 points. Glendive finished third with 100 points while Miles City placed behind Sidney in seventh with 50 points. The Eagles had an early four-run advan- tage before the Red Devils were able to get on the board. Tudie Crosby led Sidney offensively with two runs and an RBI. Lacee Giddens earned the win for the Eagles on the mound. She had six strikeouts and allowed no earned runs. The freshman allowed four hits and walked one. An RBI double by Logan Peterson scored Micah Morehouse, and earned Sidney the early run in the opening inning. A run from Crosby in the second, and a Paige Metz' RBI single scoring Giddens earned the Eagles a 4-0 lead after three in- nings. Glendive's Lexi Petterson scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to get her Red Devils on the board. But Sidney an- swered back in the sixth as Crosby scored on a wild pitch, extending the Eagles' lead to 5-1. Cheyenne Ryan and Amanda Mittlestadt muscled two runs in the bottom of the sixth to give Glendive a fighting chance, but the Eagles held off their hosts in the seventh to secure the win. SARAH BLOOM I SIDNEY HERALD Fairview hosts meet Warrior golfers placed at the top of the leader board Tuesday during the Fairview Invite held at the Sidney Country Club. Fairview's Justin Bieber, pictured, placed first and shot a 94 on the day. Teammates Brett Andreasen and Pat Hardy placed second and third respectively while Monte Cayko finished fifth on the day.
