8A SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 2014 learning SIDNEY HERALD SUBMITTED This poster will be on display on a billboard in Glendive during May. This poster will be on display on a billboard in Sidney during May. BY LR. Kgo'n'$ LOWER YELLOWSTONE CHAPTEi OF ABATE Motorcyclists take to the highways in large numbers every spring, and it's the responsibility of all road users to acknowl- edge them safely and attentively. Unfor- tunately, many road users are not always mindful of those with whom they share the road, and an annual reminder is helpful for them to recognize the flow of motor- cycles in traffic, and make an extra effort to watch for motorcycles. To aid in that effort, and in support of motorcycle enthusiast and their related organizations state-wide, the Lower Yel- lowstone Chapter of ABATE of Montana is proud to sponsor the "May is Motorcycle Awareness Month" poster contest each Year. In 2014, nearly 300 students from 11 THE AVERAGE ADULT IS area schools submitted entries. The top en- try from each of the 11 schools was award- ed a $100 cash-prize and their winning poster entered into the billboard contest, from which two finalist were selected. The top two ABATE poster contest final- ist this year are Alyssa from Deer Creek whose poster will be displayed throughout the month of May on a local billboard in Glendive, and Isabelle from Richey whose work will be on the Sidney Billboard, to urge all road users to look around, check your mirrors and consciously watch for motorcycles during Motorcycle Awareness Month. The area school poster contest $100 win- ners are as follows; From Richey Schools, Isabelle, in fifth grade; Alyssa, grade seven Deer Creek Elementary; Shaelynn, grade two from Lambert; Molly, grade four, Terry. From Lincoln Middle School in Glendive, Sydney, grade five; Makkya, fourth grade Central School, Sidney; Courtney Hecker, Sidney Middle School, seventh grade; Mason Freebury, West Side Elementary School, first grade; From Savage, Faith, grade one; Sara from Bloomfield, grade six; Calob, grade six, from Washington Middle School, Glendive; and Roman, Jefferson School, Glendive, kindergarten. During the month of May -- and all the rest of the year -- Lower Yellowstone ABATEurges motorists and other road us- ers to safely "share the road" with motor- cycles, and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe. Changing the driving habits of motorists and motorcyclists alike will help decrease the number of motorcyclists killed and injured in crashes. Motorcyclists are re- minded to make sure that they are visible to motorists, and that they follow the rules of the road. All road users are reminded to never drive, ride, walk or bicycle while distracted. iiii ii! "iliiiiii:: :iiiil;ii ! ii: i; ! You're not alone. We can help. The wastewater rate increases will be effective June 1,2014. A typical residential customer's average bill for wastewater service is estimated to increase by approximately 197% over existing wastewater rates. There will be a Council meeting following the rate hearing where the Council will determine if it will pass the resolution establishing the proposed rates. If you wish to submit written comments for the hearing, please address the comments to The Sidney City Council, 115 2nd St. SE, Sidney, MT 59038. Written responses must be received by 4:00 pm the day of the hearing. If you have any questions or desire further information, call the City Clerk-Treasurer at 406.433.2809. MNAXLP
