Barbara Ruffatto spent the weekend in Cinook attending a speech meet. Tuesday, she st- tended a DistrictChoirpractice in Glasgow. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Ruffatto visited Adolph Strand, Sidney, Thursday. Friday visitors at the Harold Martin's were Mr. and Mrs. Duane Martin and James, Fair- view. Tuesday visitors atthe Hem'y Miller home were Mr.andMrs. Mike Fisher and Michele. Wednesday caller was Harry Hagen, south Poplar. Harry Hagen took his wife to Ray, N. D., to stay With her mother, Mrs. Oscar Labodiee, while Pat's sister, Evelyn, went to be with her daughter in Texas who is ill. Mr. and Mrs. Cal Steppler visited Mr. and Mrs. Roy Step- pier, Sidney, Sunday, and also attended the square dancing in the Lalonde Hotel ballroom. The Mona School Board held a meeting at Mrs. Victor Hel- land' s Saturday. Saturday visitors at the Bert Bidegaray home were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Larsun, Spring- lake. Gary Schow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Sehow, Andes, left for San Diego, Calif., Wednes- day where he Will be stationed in the U. S. Navy. Bill Rehbein supplied two teams and sleighs andBenMer- cier came up With the third. Fifty - one morns, dsds and eager youngsters were caught up in the old time excitement o a sleighride. After the ride, everyone warmed up with some coffee, hot chocolate and hotdegs inthe Lambert Fire Hall. It Is hoped that another ride can be planned some time in the near future. A placque acknowledging his continuous service, was presented to the Berry's by Russ Nelson, right, area conservationist, Dickinson, N. D. The award was made during the annual Chamber of Commerce and Soil Conservation banquet in Fairview Man- Sees State V'eferans David W. Armstrong Jr., Di- rector of the Montana Veteran' s Welfare Commission announced today that during the first six months of the fiscal year over 20,000 veterans, their widows and children were contacted. The veteran's Welfare Com- mission has service offices in nine locations in Montanawhich contact veterans and their de- pendents in every county topro- vide assistance With their claim, and to give advice and counsel concerning their com- pensation, pension, hospitaliza- tion and education. Claims for benefits from the Veterans Admini sir alion during the six - month period for pen- sion, compensation, death pen- sion, education and insurance successfully completed result- ed in initial benefits in the amount of $3,327,560. The Veteran's Welfare Com- mission assisted Montana vet- eran's and their dependents in initiating 1,465 claims for com- pensation, pension and educa- tion and also submitted 6,651 supporting documents with these claims to the Veterans Administration. During the six month period 1,771 cases were administratively reviewed and 646 claim files were research- ed at the request of the veteran. The number of claims for ed- ucational benefits increased by 30 per cent over the sameperi- od of time for the previous year. An increasing number of Viet- nam veterans applying for bene- fits is anticipated for till year or more as the being reduced and from Indo-China. Also, recent changes in laws concerning veterans re-opened the G. I. Loans housing to World War II Korean Conflict veterans an increase in the number placations is expected source.
